Joe Manganiello Engagement: He Was Nervous Asking Sofia Vergara To Marry Him

Joe Manganiello’s engagement to Modern Family star Sofia Vergara came as quite the surprise to those of us who have been following their relationship. Vergara called time on her relationship with Nick Loeb after a two year engagement and then she suddenly began dating the True Blood actor. After a whirlwind six month romance, he popped the question to his lady love – and she said yes.

As it turns out, he proposed in private – just because he thought that she might say no. A source told People magazine, “He said he wanted to keep it private just in case she didn’t say yes. It actually didn’t seem like he was joking about that. He did seem genuinely nervous that maybe this wasn’t going to go well. He said this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a one-in-a-million woman.”

Manganiello’s engagement to the Colombian actress took place at the St. Regis Hotel in Princeville. The source said, “This wasn’t spontaneous. Joe definitely planned ahead and contacted the hotel weeks in advance to discuss certain things he wanted to do. He didn’t want to propose in a public setting, even though there are so many beautiful spots on the hotel grounds that have spectacular views and are well-known as places where people pop the question. But Joe said he didn’t want to risk anyone walking by and witnessing it, and he didn’t want to tip off Sofia by having security there shooing people away.”

Joe Manganiello’s engagement to Vergara took place in their five-star hotel suite so as to avoid any interruptions. The source said, “It has unobstructed views over the water and almost seems like you are floating on the ocean. Desserts were sent later on.”

After his proposal, the happy couple “weren’t seen around the hotel much on Christmas Day, which many took to mean they were busy…celebrating.”

Congratulations to Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara on their happy engagement news. Sarah Hyland was right, they will make gorgeous babies together. Her ex-fiance harbors no ill will toward Vergara in her engagement. Nick Loeb said, “She is beautiful and majestic and therefore to be loved. Beyond all else in life she deserves happiness, the kind that only true love can bring.”
