For the last five years I have been working from home. I have served as the CEO of websites I’ve built, I have served as the head of operations for websites with nearly 20 million monthly readers, and I have served as the Chief Operating Officer for the world’s largest online brand management company. I have done all of that thanks in large part to a state-of-the-art, yet cheap to construct, home office.
My success as an at-home worker has been based on several important factors. Family support, the right technology, and the right space, are all important parts of my success.
If if you want setup your home office for success, here are a few simple, yet highly effective tips.
Get Family Support
It is incredibly important that your wife or husband, children, and even roommates, understand that you need your space. Before building or setting up your home office, make sure you have some set rules for your space. Explain that you need uninterrupted work time during certain hours. Also make sure that everyone recognizes that you are working a real job that requires the same focus as an office environment.
Location Is Important For A Home Office
If possible move your office to a section of your home where there is as little noise as possible. I built my office as an addition to my home, setting up a space that is free of noise from children, pets, and even traffic. I purposefully moved my office away from a more busy road, and towards the back of my home.
If you can build your office near a bathroom that is all the better. Leave your office, go to the bathroom, and head back into your office without a bunch on interruptions. I even put a mini fridge in my office so I have immediate access to drinks and snacks as needed.
Choose The Tech That You Need, Don’t Skimp
While Finance Patch is dedicated to frugal living, there are some areas where we refuse to skimp. One of those areas is a home office. As you can see in the photo shows at the top of this post, I installed a very high-tech office that cost me nearly $5,000. My office has the tech I need to succeed.
Brainstorm what you need in your office from fax machines and computers to mini-fridges and a comfortable chair. If you feel like you are in a professional environment, you will do your job like a professional.
A successful home office setup is contingent on being comfortable, having the tech you need, and avoiding distractions. Follow my simple rules, and add any other variables you consider important, and you can easily become a high-level executive right from the comfort of your own home.
