There are reportedly rumors that Aaron Paul will be starring in a Star Wars spin-off, which will be a prequel to the original series trilogy and revolve around the adventures of a young Han Solo. It is actually not clear at this point whether Paul will in fact play the role of the character made famous by Harrison Ford; all that is known as of right now is that his name is attached to the project.
Gareth Edwards has been confirmed as the director, and a tentative release date has been set for Dec. 16, 2016, or approximately one year after the release of the highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
While the spin-off doesn’t have an official title as of yet, the project is said to be in the works under the code name “Luminac Industrial Goods.”
According to Paul Ward, who is the editor-in-chief for the website Making Star Wars, details are being kept to a minimum. In his own words:
“I generally shy away from reporting too much on the specifics of the stand-alone spin-off Star Wars films because we hear so much stuff it can be difficult to know what to take seriously.”
As for Aaron Paul’s involvement in the Star Wars spin-off, many are already noting the similarities between him and Han Solo as portrayed by Ford back in 70s and early 80s. The latter, in fact, is reprising his role for the upcoming 7th installment.
Since the release is still two years away, most of the buzz at this point remains centered on The Force Awakens. Besides, direct sequels are usually more popular than spin-offs. Nevertheless, the news is certainly song to the ears of those who eat and breathe the Star Wars franchise.
Paul rose to fame for his role as Jesse Pinkman in the hit AMC series Breaking Bad and was also the only actor besides Bryan Cranston to appear in every episode of the show. The role also won him numerous awards. With his existing popularity, Aaron Paul as a beloved Star Wars character would certainly make sense.
