A new clip from the upcoming Better Call Saul spinoff shows audiences when Saul first met Mike Ehrmentraut, the aged hit man from Breaking Bad played by Jonathan Banks.
Better Call Saul is a spinoff from Breaking Bad, one of the most successful and critically-acclaimed television shows in history. This spinoff will focus on the shady lawyer of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), and his various misadventures. A trailer was released last month, and now we have the first clip of the show:
The clip is clear indication that the filming style, the color palette and cinematography, mirror that of Breaking Bad. What looks to be different is the humor. While Breaking Bad did have its fair share of humor, the series grew progressively darker alongside its lead character.
Jonathan Banks is one of a handful of Breaking Bad alum who have been rumored to return for Better Call Saul, while Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer/producer Peter Gould will be behind the scenes once again. Other cast members include Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, and Michael Mando, though their involvement has not been detailed beyond that.
Here is the official synopsis for Better Call Saul:
“Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White’s lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.”
The Better Call Saul clip figures to be one of many leading up to the series debut on February 8. This will be the first night of a two-night premiere, with the second part coming the following night.
