Erica Garner tweeted the address of a NYPD policeman. The daughter of Eric Garner posted a Christmas day tweet to her followers that included the address of Officer Justin D’Amico, who was among the officers involved in the altercation that resulted in the death of her father.
In her tweet, Erica Garner, posted the following message:
“another officer that helped killed [sic] my dad.”
The post was followed by a link that directed her nearly 5,000 followers to a website that contained D’Amico’s address along with that of five others believed to be the officer’s relatives. The post received about 500 views before being promptly removed.
Many are now denouncing Erica Garner’s tweeting of the address and calling it extremely irresponsible. This is especially the case given the assassination of two NYPD officers by a lone gunman who was seeking retribution for the officer-involved deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
Many have also expressed disappointment at Erica Garner; previous to the tweet, many felt she was an exemplary example of a class act and peaceful protester. She appeared on CNN for an interview with Don Lemon earlier in the month and said that she did not believe her father’s death was racially motivated. She also commended the demonstrators of all colors who have stood side-by-side to express their outrage. Her sister Emerald even attended the memorial of the two aforementioned slain NYPD officers.
Many are showing their disgust with their own tweets:

With a single tweet, Erica Garner appears to have quickly alienated the majority of her followers. An NYPD spokesman called the post “disgusting” and that it “poses grave danger” to the officer and his families. Ed Mullins, the head of the NYPD sergeants union, called the woman’s actions:
“terrible behavior that continues to cause divisive actions throughout the city.”
In her tweet, garner posted a link to the site PasteBin, which enables users to send anonymous posts via plain-text document. The tweet also included the hashtag #Doxx, which is used when disseminating private information of someone’s life.
Garner family attorney Jonathan Moore has confirmed that it was Erica who sent the post but that it was merely a retweet and she was unaware that the link contained the officer’s home address.
With Erica Garner’s tweet of the address, the NYPD will even be more on high alert. Several SWAT teams have already been deployed at New York police stations amid terroristic threats made against law enforcement officials.
