Girl Meets World is gearing for a reunion episode that will feature the return of Corey Matthew’s best friend Shawn Hunter. While the Boy Meets World spinoff is geared towards teeny boppers, it is no secret that it is also viewed by millennials who grew up watching the original series.
The highly anticipated reunion episode will be airing Dec. 5 and will also mark the show’s first Christmas episode. Fans are buzzing on social media wondering what has become of Shawn (played by Rider Strong). Is he still a wild boy or has he settled into family life?
In addition to Strong, the episode will also feature guess appearances by William Russ and Betsy Randle as Alan and Amy Matthews, Corey’s parents, and Joshua Matthews, Corey’s younger teenage brother who was born towards the end of Boy Meets World.
In the Girl Meets World reunion episode, Shawn’s visit gives viewers a side-by-side comparison of Corey and Shawn’s relationship and how it mirrors that of Corey’s daughter, Riley, and her best friend Maya.

Girl Meets World made its debut in June to strong ratings. The premise is very similar to that of Boy Meets World, only this time, the spotlight is on Riley who experiences the world and grows up before the eyes of millions of viewers. In essence, the show is just like its predecessor but now portrayed from a girl’s perspective.
The show is certainly hip and sassy enough to attract its intended tween fan base, and parents will approve of it for the lessons contained within each episode. Some of the show’s moral lessons tackle issues that are very pertinent today, such as bullying and the value of hard work.
The original Boy Meets World made its debut back in 1993 and ran until 2000. Early episodes featured the daily musings of Corey and Shawn along with teacher Mr. Feeny who was also the Matthew family’s neighbor. In fact, it was Mr. Feeny that would impart his wisdom to the young Corey. This mentor/student dynamic is also seen in Girl Meets World between Corey and Riley. Aside from being her father, Corey also happens to be his daughter’s history teacher.
The Girl Meets World reunion episode is what fans have been waiting for. It will be interesting to see Corey and Shawn in the same room for the first time in 14 years and find out what the ladder has been up to.
