A Denver man buys a PS4 at Walmart but ends up with a box full of rocks instead. The unlucky fellow is Igor Baksht, who purchased the gaming console as a Christmas gift for his 13-year-old Niece. When the box was opened, Baksht was horrified to find that in place of the console and accessories were two bags of rocks wrapped in tin foil and duct tape.
Initially, Walmart refused to take the PS4 back because there was no proof the console was already missing when he bought it. The store manager, though, eventually agreed to refund his money the day before Christmas. This only happened, though, after Baksht filed a complaint to the retail’s corporate headquarters.
According to Baksht, when he made the purchase, a store clerk brought out the box from a locker and said that it was previously purchased and returned by another customer. The employee even commented on how unusually heavy the box felt when he brought it out.
In an interview with ABC 7 News, Baksht told the reporter:
“Just to make sure everything was inside, that all the contents were inside, all the games were inside. When I opened it, I said, ‘Oh my God.'”
Cases like this isn’t completely unheard of. There are many cases of people purchasing expensive gadgets like iPhones and game consoles only to end up with a box filled with rolled up paper or rocks. In these instances, the culprit may be the seller, or the item could have been stolen during the delivery process. The whole case may even be fabricated by the buyer in order to get their money back while holding onto the item.
In the end it looked like everything worked out. On a side note, it’s worth pointing out that Baksht purchased Walmart’s PS4 bundle that came with Grand Theft Auto V. That’s not exactly an age-appropriate game for a 13-year-old, but that’s a whole other discussion.
