Now that it’s available for watching online, despite Sony’s long ordeal with hackers who have purportedly wreaked havoc on the company to prevent the movie’s release, Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Evan Goldberg decided to live-tweet The Interview Sunday evening. They started at 2PM PST, and discussed the movie live on Twitter as it played.
They started with the opening credits, of course.
We like to go with the old school columbia logos. #TheInterview

The trio offered random tidbits about the movie. It was standard movie trivia — discussing who thought of certain jokes, what scenes actors stuggled to keep a straight face through, and the difference between being in a real tank and a set.
Eminem actually wrote that rap. #TheInterview

Me, Franco, and Lizzie all shot those scenes weeks apart. #TheInterview
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) December 28, 2014
They shared behind-the scenes details of portions of the movie:
It took a lot longer to shoot that party scene than I like to admit. #TheInterview
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) December 28, 2014
We filmed that party scene for 8 hours and that was how we ended up using. Satisfying and maddening all at once @Sethrogen
— Evan Goldberg (@evandgoldberg) December 28, 2014
Most of The Interview live-tweet simply sounds like bits from a DVD commentary. It’s the sort of stuff you’d expect actors and directors to share while watching a movie they worked on together. They’re interesting facts for a fan of the movie, but nothing controversial or problematic.
A lot of the tweets, though, are further potshots at Kim Jong Il, and his family, and Pyongyang. Some may be aimed only at the character in the movie, rather than the real Kim Jong Il, but it’s easy to see how he’d take offense, either way.
The poo and poo/talk to dolphins are actually myths to exist about the Kim family. #TheInterview
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) December 28, 2014
The real Kim Jong Il told his sons that western culture would make them effeminate and unfit for ruling. #TheInterview

They actually have fake grocery stores in Pyongyang. #TheInterview
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) December 28, 2014
We put a lot of thought into how the stupidest person ever would finally understand he was being lied to. Fake Grapefruit. #TheInterview

Since its release, The Interview has done well in theaters, and appears to be doing well online. It’s safe to say that the Sony hacking didn’t stop the movie from having some success, and the fear of suffering censorship may have even driven profits.
Though they’ve been accused of it on social media, it’s clear that it wasn’t necessary to live-tweet The Interview in order to drive sales. Instead, the event reads more as a move by three guys who are celebrating that the movie has at last seen the light of day, when it briefly appeared it would not.
