Walking Dead Facebook Page Apologizes For Spoiling Mid-Season Finale (SPOILERS INSIDE)

The Walking Dead mid-season finale was built up with a lot of promotion and expectation, but then one of the biggest events in the show was spoiled for some viewers by the official Walking Dead Facebook page. Oops! The page posted images during, and immediately after, the East Coast showing, apparently forgetting about viewers who watch at West Coast times, and those who record the show for later viewing.

There had been hints for two weeks that a major character might die in the mid-season finale, and there was even a little foreshadowing when Norman Reedus appeared to share a spoiler.

Just before the Walking Dead mid-season finale ended on the East Coast, the official Facebook page shared an image showing the beginnings of the prisoner exchange. East Coasters who watch live had already seen this scene — but West Coasters and DVRers had not.

Not long after the show aired, the page posted another photo. This one was an over-the-top spoiler for anyone who hadn’t yet seen the episode, and people got understandably upset.

Now the social media team has seen the error of their ways, and issued this apology Monday evening:

We heard your feedback to last night’s post, and we’re sorry. With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead. The show is one of the top-rated on television, regularly beating out Sunday night football in ratings, and spoiling the Walking Dead mid-season finale might be one of the biggest faux pas a media team could make. It remains to be seen whether the fans are ready to forgive.
