The Sony e-mail hack revealed many surprising details regarding the insights of the company. One of the more fun stories that emerged in the wake was a quote from Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal that Idris Elba should be the next James Bond.
Even though Daniel Craig has at least one more film to do after the upcoming “Spectre” according to his deal, it is a fun bit of speculation on the Sony chairman’s part and a great choice which many fans would be excited to see come true.
The story picked up steam again this week when U.S. conservative radio shock jock Rush Limbaugh reportedly dismissed the idea of a James Bond that wasn’t “white and Scottish”.
Now, the “Luther” and “Pacific Rim” actor has now commented on the talk via a posting on his Twitter account.
Isn’t 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people. http://pic.twitter.com/3g9lAl2Uo3

This tweet also comes on the heels of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s controversial comments that James Bond must be “white and Scottish.” Elba would be the first black Bond.
“James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” Limbaugh said. “But now (they are) suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is.”
“I know it’s racist to probably point this out,” he also acknowledged.
Elba has tackled the rumor of replacing Daniel Craig as the suave British spy before. He told NPR in 2011 that he’s not interested in so-called black roles.
“I just don’t want to be the black James Bond,” Elba said. “Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”
The Sony Pictures hack continues to reveal more insider information about the movie production and distribution company. This time around it has been revealed that the $300 million budget for James Bond Spectre, was almost wasted on an awful, hard to follow ending, that required rewrites from numerous Hollywood script writers.
In part of the emails released in the leak, it is revealed that the $300 million budget for James Bond Spectre was nearly lost on an ending that was so bad that numerous heavyweights were brought in to rewrite the script after page 100.
“For what it’s worth, I think first 100 pages are fantastic,” MGM executive Jonathan Glickman wrote on October 9, It’s all downhill from there. ”You guys set me up for a let down on climax,” writes Glickman. “So I was not surprised.”
Filming is ongoing on “Spectre,” the next film in the James Bond series which is currently targeting a November 6th 2015 release.
What do you think of Elba’s response? Do you think he is a good candidate to take over the role of James Bond? Or is this one fictional character where race matters to you?
