Jim Harbaugh is the University of Michigan’s next head coach, and may just set the record for the quickest hire after leaving his previous position. His 49ers missed out on the postseason this season, and finished with a record of 8-8.
After rumors had been going around for a while, the news of his return to Michigan has finally been announced. Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan from 1983 to 1986 before a long NFL career.
He parted ways with San Francisco after the team’s final game of the season on Sunday. It was reported that the split was mutual, and while he has had a great run with the 49ers, the team has been steadily going downhill.
The San Francisco 49ers were able to their coach off with a final win at least, defeating the Arizona Cardinals 20-17, and allowing the Seahawks to claim the top spot in the playoffs.
Jim Harbaugh did the best coaching in the NFL the last four years. He'll have #Michigan in the national picture in the blink of an eye.

Jim Harbaugh returning to the University of Michigan could be a positive move for the program, as they have struggled greatly under the direction of former coach Brady Hoke. Harbaugh almost took the job in 2011, but decided to head to the NFL instead.
Brady Hoke was fired after the loss to Ohio State, which guaranteed that they would not make a bowl game. The Wolverines were also beat up by their in-state rivals, Michigan State, which had not been the case for several years.
Coach Harbaugh is scheduled to be officially brought in as the head coach of Michigan with a news conference on Tuesday. Details of the contract were not immediately available, but it was previously reported that Michigan offered a six-year contract worth at least $48 million.
Jim Harbaugh spent part of his childhood in Ann Arbor, and stayed to attend the University of Michigan. However, when his coaching career started, he returned to the west coast, and spent time with the Oakland Raiders as a quarterbacks coach and moved on to become the head coach of the University of San Diego, Stanford, and then the 49ers.
